This is an authentic Edo-period woodblock-printed book titled 絵本櫻姫譚専紙 六巻 (Ehon Sakura-hime Tan Sen-shi, Volume 6), part of a classical illustrated narrative cycle that was popular throughout the late Edo era. Printed in traditional fukurotoji binding, the volume features finely carved woodblock illustrations and hand-set cursive text that reflect the storytelling culture of the 18th–19th centuries.

The story of Sakura-hime belongs to the tradition of Edo-period dramatic literature, often involving themes such as heroic duty, supernatural encounters, court romance, and moral conflict. This volume combines text with detailed visual scenes, including landscapes, noble residences, dramatic moments, and expressive characters executed in the distinctive style of Edo woodblock illustration.

Books from this period were produced in limited numbers and printed entirely by hand. Because of their fragile washi paper and the passage of time, complete or partially complete volumes are increasingly rare. This surviving sixth volume is a valuable example of Edo literary culture and is well-suited for collectors of Japanese antiquarian books, museums, and enthusiasts of woodblock-printed Ehon.

The book retains its original Edo blue cover, stitched binding, and high-quality handmade washi paper. It stands as an excellent representation of Japanese narrative art before the modernization of the Meiji era.
